Start with fit and the intended experience

A ring brief should define size coverage, wear duration, materials, charging interaction and the role of the companion app. Treat the ring, charger and software as one experience. A compact shape alone does not define what will be useful to the wearer.

Discuss sensing and reporting requirements separately. A sensor signal, a processed metric and a recommendation shown in the app are different outputs. Specify which outputs matter to your audience, how they will be explained, and what evidence will be needed before making a performance claim.

Turn constraints into an evaluation plan

Set a target battery profile with a named sampling and synchronization pattern rather than a single unexplained number of days. Review the proposed enclosure and charging arrangement alongside those power assumptions. For app-led products, include pairing, low-battery feedback and data freshness in the evaluation.

Optional sleep, stress or cycle-related algorithms need a defined scope and supplier arrangement. Their availability, licensing, supported languages and intended-use limitations should be confirmed. A solution category is not evidence that every option has already been implemented in every configuration.

What to bring to the first discussion

Send the intended audience, size range, essential functions, desired materials, target market and expected volume range. Indicate whether you need an app, an SDK integration or both. We can then discuss a feasibility scope, sample plan and the responsibilities needed to reach a production decision.

Costs and timing depend on the resulting scope. Ask that tooling, electronics, firmware, app work, test activities and post-launch maintenance are separated in the proposal. The purpose is a transparent development decision, not a promise that an unspecified ring is ready to ship.
